Nespresso is one of the leading producers of single-serve coffee makers. Nespresso machines are known for their ease of use and rich taste. Over the last several years, Nespresso has faced some intense competition from other single serve coffee makers. But now Nespresso has gone down its own road with the Vertuo line, a set of coffee machines which use pods with barcodes to ensure each cup is brewed to perfection.
According to the company, this new type of coffee is aimed at people who like their coffee precisely brewed to ensure the best-tasting coffee cup. Nespresso sells around 15 different coffee maker machines. The small Essenza Mini is great for tiny spaces while the Lattissima Pro sits atop the line of Nespresso machines for creating cappuccinos. According to our research, the VertuoLine and Evoluo are two of the most popular coffee makers from Nespresso. Here’s an overview of these two machines.
Nespresso VertuoLine Coffee Maker
Firstly, let us look at the Nespresso VertuoLine coffee machine. This coffee machine is a stark contrast to any conventional coffee maker thanks to its unique design. The vertical lines are retro chic and will look great in any kitchen. And it doesn’t stop there, because this coffee maker can brew different types of coffee thanks to both Nespresso’s patented coffee capsules and its unique barcode system.
The machine comes with an optional Aeroccino milk frother that allows you to make milk based coffee drinks, like my favorite creamy latte. The milk tank is separate from the Nespresso machine so you can place it nearby or store in a nearby cabinet when not in use.
The pods are inserted into a capsule holder at the top of the machine. They have barcodes that tell the machine how much water, milk and coffee is needed to make each brew. This means with the simple one touch brew system, you will always brew the perfect size cup of coffee. Nespresso VertuoLine coffee makers have 40 ounce removable water tank, so you won’t have to refill it after every cup. Plus, the capsules drop into the used capsule container after each brew, making it easy to brew multiple without making a trip to the trashcan to remove the coffee grounds.
The Nespresso VertuoLine espresso machine comes in three models: the Vertuo Coffee Machine, the Vertuo Plus Coffee Machine and the Vertuo Next Coffee Machine.
Nespresso Evoluo Coffee Maker
Now let us look at the Evoluo. This machine is not as modern looking as its counterpart, but it still looks great and it has a larger water 54 ounce reservoir, making it even better for hosting a weekend brunch party! The water tank is easy to remove and may even be cleaned in the sink. Using the optional Aeroccino milk frother, with just one button, you can make all sorts of coffee drinks including lattes and cappuccinos.
You might be wondering how this machine brews such great tasting cups of coffee. It does it using Nespresso’s patented coffee capsules which come in assorted varieties of regular and decaffeinated coffee. These capsules are inserted into a pod holder at the top of the machine. This capsule system ensures the best tasting cup of coffee.
Nespresso Vertuo vs Original Capsules
Let’s look at the differences between the Nespresso VertuoLine and the Evoluo now that we’ve learned a little more about them. One of the good things about these machines is that they can use the newer Vertuo coffee pods. These pods each have a barcode around the ring which tells the machine the precise temperature and how much water will be needed to make up a perfect cup of coffee.
The barcode is scanned automatically during the Centrifusion process when placed into the machine. Each pod is pre-measured to make a specific style size and style of coffee. That means, if you want a double shot of espresso, you will get one. If you want an 8 ounce cup of coffee, then grab that specific pod, slap it in, press the brew button and grab a bagel to relax while it’s being brewed.
This does mean that you cannot use the Original line of Nespresso pods. They are a different shape and do not have any barcodes. They still make great coffee, but you will need to purchase a different coffee maker to use them.
What is Nespresso Centrifusion brewing?
This is Nespresso’s new technology that uses centrifugal force to brew each perfect cup. After you press the brew button, the capsule will start to rotate and let the the machine read the capsule specific barcode.
The machine will continue to spin the pod until it reaches up to 7000 RPM (rotations per minute). Your Nespresso coffee maker will then gently brew the coffee and extract it’s full aroma along with creating that rich crema every time.
The bar code not only tells the machine how to brew, it also informs it which cup sizes to brew for. Nespresso Capsules for this machine can brew single espresso, double espresso, and 5 or 8 oz coffee cup sizes.
Nespresso VertuoLine vs Evoluo: Which Coffee Maker is Better?
Both are great options depending on your tastes. The Nespresso VertuoLine has more options when it comes to overall design. The Vertuo Next and Vertuo Plus are much smaller, which can be great for coffee lovers with limited counter space.
The Nespresso Evoluo is a bit bulkier, but it also has a larger water tank. That added water would be great in an office setting where you might want to brew multiple cups for clients between meetings.
Whichever you choose, both are great machines that give you an excellent tasting cup of coffee every time. In the debate between Nespresso VertuoLine vs Evoluo, we would probably pick the Nespresso Evoluo because it has a larger water tank and we just like being a little bit lazy sometimes.
